Speaker setup for club
Position the bar away from the dance floor when designing your nightclub. It also helps to have loudspeakers near the bar on their own dedicated volume control. When choosing your sound system use equipment that avoids distortion.
This allows lower volume levels while still getting the same desired effect. Directional loudspeakers will also help focus sound away from sensitive areas. When setting up the sound system be careful with setting your levels and also who has control of this.
Instead you want volume levels set by a professional sound technician. They will have your businesses best interests at heart. With better sound quality it is easier to attract popular DJs and artists. These in turn bring more people to your nightclub. We also find there are more subtle nuances how sound quality effects profit. Choose a nightclub sound system that has exceptional clarity and fidelity. We believe distorted music causes stress and fatigue. This is because the brain is working hard to filter out the harmonic content that is distortion.
Improving sound system clarity should lead to a better atmosphere. Venues with a good atmosphere are more popular. Our clients have reported that bar staff find it quicker to take orders since installing speakers with better clarity.
This means a quicker turn over and higher bar takings. Every venue is different so it is worth sitting down and writing a list of what you want your sound system to do. Zones offer individual control over different parts of your nightclub. Do you want different music in different rooms?
If so each room is a separate zone. Do you want different volume control around the bar and on the dance floor?
Again each will need a separate zone. For input sockets you need to think where you might want to play music from. The obvious place is in the DJ booth or on the stage. You should consider whether you want your staff to be able to plug in an smartphone behind the bar. You might want input sockets on your sun terrace so that you can have your DJ outside for summer events.
Output sockets will need to be everywhere you might want to set up a portable sound system. At the high end a fully zoned nightclub can have music from any input socket sent to any loudspeaker or output socket.
This can even be remotely controlled over the internet. This I think will give me better stereo imaging in my live mixing I say this because, right now the connection has been done the wrong way. Since the cafe is big, the time difference in sound reaching from different speakers to the audience becomes distinct.

Be smart, don't put heavy enclosures on folding chairs or light furniture. Make sure you have the speaker stand's legs splayed properly, and never exceed load limits.
Use sandbags or old gym weights on the legs so that wind at outdoor events or jostling from crowds won't tip the stands over. Tape down cables and route foot traffic away from stands to avoid injuries. You can never play it too safe.
Figure 2: This typical speaker arrangement shows high-frequency dispersion patterns and includes a small speaker that's been added to cover tables at one side of the stage. Like microphones, speakers have a directional pattern and tend to beam mid- and high-frequency sounds in specific directions at varying angles.
You can group speaker patterns into two general categories: long-throw and short-throw. Long-throw speakers, which have projection patterns as narrow as 20 degrees, are used exclusively for concert sound systems targeting crowds hundreds of feet away.
By comparison, most club speakers are short-throw, with dispersion patterns of 60 by 40 degrees or wider. This means most of the midrange and high frequencies project out in a cone about 60 degrees wide by 40 degrees high. If the audience strays outside this range, they'll mostly hear booming bass sounds and miss the vocals.
As a general rule, if you can't see the throat of the horn, you can't hear it. Try to aim speakers toward the most important part of the room. If you need to cover a group of listeners seated directly beside the stage, you may have to aim an additional set of small speakers to the side so everyone can hear see Fig. These speakers don't require a lot of bass response, but they should have a wide dispersion pattern if possible. I keep a set of Bose cabinets in my trailer for just such contingencies.
They have a very wide dispersion pattern and are not as loud as a horn-loaded cabinet, making them perfect for covering tables directly to the side of a stage.
You must place speakers in front of the band to eliminate the speaker-to-mic path, the primary cause of feedback. A nice sound profile that is, unfortunately, let down in the bass.
Clarity is up there with the best and adding a subwoofer will quickly remedy the bass response issues. Attractive in both price and appearance it manages to still offer excellent features. Tuning control is accurate and effective. The Turbosound iX12 offers excellent Bluetooth functionality. Seamless pairing and streaming. But the limitation to iOS devices may be a dealbreaker for some. Beyond Bluetooth functionality, the sound profile is impressive for this inch speaker.
Clean vocal response and precise instrument representation. The bass is substantial enough for most situations. Buying the best DJ speakers for your setup can be difficult. Below we outline some of the features and attributes you need to consider when shopping for powered speakers. Studio monitors as the name implies are for production use.
They offer a flat response that replicates music as true to the original recording as possible. This is excellent for analytical listening and production work but not great for DJing.
The EQ curve is not satisfying for the general punter. Studio monitors are for the studio, not for live performances. DJ speakers offer a more colored sound with an EQ curve that often emphasizes the bass. This more Hi-Fi style sound is great for a house party or gig. DJ speakers also tend to be larger and output higher volumes. Determining a budget is another consideration.
But as a working DJ, one of the most important components is your speakers. It is after all that your customers will hear. Where possible try to invest in the best speakers you can afford. The best DJ speakers will not only last longer they will also sound better. This applies to all your gear. In these cases pay extra attention to reviews and feedback around durability.
You want a powered speaker that will allow you to start performing and saving for better gear down the track. A mobile DJ has a lot of gear to take to events. Once you include your DJ controller or decks, headphones, microphone, laptop, lights, and possibly a table that is already a lot. Make sure to have enough space in your car or van for your active speakers as well. Speakers which are easy to transport makes getting set up at a gig easier. Weight is another consideration. Setting up an event can be backbreaking.
If you aim for lighter speakers it will make your job easier. Extra features like carrying handles or accessories like speaker bags are also worth considering. It is also why we recommend self-powered speakers over passive speakers. A passive speaker will need an external amp which is more stuff that you need to find space for.
Avoid passive speakers unless you have experience in sound setups. Some mobile DJs may want to invest in a set of active speakers that also offer Bluetooth. This is a great way to warm up a crowd with a dedicated playlist before your primary performance.
It is also a great way to quickly and easily handle requests. This is one of the features of DJ speakers which has grown in popularity. Bluetooth is a great way to stream music while you are not performing. Audio lag is a surefire way to mess up your transitions.
DJing is not unlike any other professional business. Looks are important but even more so is the service level you provide.
