I mean this is the sort of movie where there is a floor show with chorus girls at the palace in the middle of the African Jungle. Hedda Hopper, not yet the feared Hollywood gossip columnist, plays the mom and I was surprised to see she's actually a decent actress. I'd always assumed she'd given up acting because she wasn't any good at it.

Eleanor and Tarzan are both played by Olympic gold medalists not actors but they get by. Tarzan's main job is to look good in the loin cloth and he is very, very good at that. Elanor's idiot fiance is meant to be comic relief I think but his shooting everything he can including a fawn and small parrot makes him disgusting and my biggest complaint about this movie is that he didn't get eaten by something.

Great White Hunters kill and capture animals and a local prince takes a shine to the heroine Eleanor Holm. On both counts, Tarzan Glenn Morris is less than pleased and decides to do something about it. You know the rest. I think by far the best of the Tarzan films on this site.

Morris' acting isn't up to much but, for me, Holm carries the film and the production values are higher than average. In the 50s Tarzan was second only to John Wayne! This feature has a good plot with the usual animal antics. The inept greenhorn fiance' of the leading lady who shoots at everything that moves,along with some fierce natives with a traitorous guide with a quivering lip make for some great entertainment for the whole family!

My suggestion would be to treat yourself and your family to a 50s style kid's saturday show. It's definitely no shovel-ware. There are a few qualms I have with this one, though. You'll get tired of hearing Tarzan's beast-cry especially young Tarzan's beast-cry very quickly. Also, since many of the enemies weave in and out of the 2-D path, it can be hard sometimes to tell when one of the enemies is actually in your hit-plane.

And the lemur's Having actually worked with ring-tailed lemurs, I can tell you that they're less dangerous than cats. The notion that Tarzan, who tore apart lions with his bare hands, fought against the agents of Stalin, and led a crack team of African riflemen against the dinosaur-riding serpent men of the inner earth, could be hurt by a ring-tailed lemur is laughable! Still, Disney's Tarzan is a good game, and considering how hard pressed I am to think of any other Edgar Rice Burroughs-based video games off the top of my head, that's not bad!
