Avast freezes windows 8

After installing Avast 8. I tried the fix, but no luck. I went back to Avast 7. I have never installed any virussoftware on this computer other than Avast. I haven't got any minidump files to send you.

KymberB Guest. I will try the fix listed in this thread, has anyone else had success? Could you share this info with your customer lack o' service? This was my experience last evening I have the paid version and when I called the support line to report my boot fail, they remote accessed my computer with my permission and proceeded to point out typical system housekeeping stuff they claimed suddenly conflicted with the upgrade.

I think not. Another good product, ruined by greed. All antivirus removed from pc with correct programs. Tried loading avast free and it still tells me I have antivirus on the pc and still freezes on boot. I have generated the support report, but no idea where to send it. I just want my money back at this point and a different provider.

Avast what should we do? Just wait for fix? I have installed avast 7, is avast 7 still getting new definitions? I changed the setting on the Vista x64 with issue's and I could startup again normally with all software options installed and running including the Windows Defender If it is freezing try this as it worked for me: Start the PC is safe mode 1.

Start regedit 2. Restart PC. If it works you are done. If it does not work bug support!! NOTE: You are editing you registry! If you are unsure of this MAKE a backup first of the key. You are on your own! By following the steps as written above you acknowledge the fact you may damage your system. If this is the solution can I get the lost days reimbursed on my 3 year subscription?

VFN Guest. Is Vista x64 a confirmed problem, especially Home Premium which I have? I haven't updated to 8 and am very hestitant to with what I've read. Avast pushed through an update today and stupid me assumed it was good and installed it. Turned out it updated me to v8 and of course my 64 Bit Vista PC hung on booting. Went into safemode, removed Avast, and it booted fine. Reinstalled, same issue, uninstalled and then searched the forums which brought me to this thread.

I just re-upped my subscription last month. I'm calling Avast in the morning and demanding a refund and going with another program. This should never have happened, and it's going to cost them customers. I've used Avast for years but they've just lost me as a customer, this is ridiculous. SMF 2. Freezing on certain sites on the internet, including my work site. Situation was exasperating to say the least. I followed your steps and configured everything to 8. I also removed everything, apart from MacAfee from start up.

I restarted after the changes and immediately noticed an increase in speed and have not experienced the previous hang ups yet touch wood. Now this new computer is beginning to behave like the man in the store said it would! Many thanks. Did I miss something? All of these suggestions are nice…if your computer is not frozen.

Mine will get to the lock screen and stop. I can shut down using the power button and when I try to start up, it goes right back to the lock screen. No mouse, no keyboard; nothing.

Cycling on and off does nothing. I have a Toshiba Satellite PS Too light to make a good anchor. Any ideas how to get it past the lock screen? No change. Made a USB boot drive. Still goes directly to the lock screen. Cannot get anywhere. I believe I need to be able to use the keyboard in order to enter that command.

Keyboard is locked. Mouse is locked. The computer is a laptop, so i cannot change USB ports. I tried removing the battery and starting on the plug alone…no help.

I tried resetting the ram…no help. Every once in a while it will go through a long boot, but I have not found a function key that will get me into the safe zone. Please helppp! That is very interesting. I have a relatively new ASUS laptop a high-end one that came with win8. Is this just laziness by ASUS or what? Anyway, I have changed all mine to 8. Thanks RosalieG. Great stuff. Another thing that can hang up 8.

While 8. I had same problem with unresponsive task bar in Windows 8. I unplugged laptop, then removed battery. Put battery back in, plugged laptop in and restarted laptop. Magically, task bar is now responding. Your email address will not be published. Skip to content Advertisement. Contents hide. Check your hardware. Use the Windows Troubleshooters.
