Terminator 2 - Chrome Twelve artifacts are required to access the Artifact Temple. This table is unique in that the player is given a 6-ball multiball, and losing all the balls does not detract from the extra balls. To complete this table, the player must hit twelve different targets scattered throughout the table, while being bombarded from above by Meta Ridley.
If all of the balls are lost in any way, by draining off the table or being destroyed by Meta Ridley, the table immediately ends. While none of the twelve artifacts collected will be lost, players will be forced to go back to a different table and complete it before being allowed another attempt at the Artifact Temple. Upon completing the Artifact Temple, access is granted to the final table, Impact Crater , where the final ability, the Force Ball , is held.
The only objective on this table is defeating Metroid Prime. Once this objective has been completed, the game starts again with a greater difficulty, all the tables are available for single-table play, and expert mode is unlocked. The first two levels contain game modes that are able to be activated through various methods. The multiplayer option requires only one copy of the game and allows for up to 8 players to compete in a race to reach a target score.
This mode uses a seventh table, Magmoor Caverns , which does not exist in single-player. The multiplayer mode can be played with only one player simply by selecting the start game option without any other players being on the downloads list.

It does take a little practice since players will have to use the shoulder button flippers in order to fully take advantage of touch nudging. But it's creative and it works well for pinball, and short of including a motion sensor in the cartridge, it's the best and most intuitive way we've seen nudge control employed in video pinball.
Visually, Metroid Prime Pinball is a great looking title that sticks with 2D effects to drive the imagery. Everything, from the table layout to the Samus ball to the enemy creatures, is prerendered, but the action flows incredibly smoothly with a fantastic physics engine driving the pinball around the environments. There are even some stunning effects, like rain environments and water reflections, and the action never chugs, even when the table throws six Samus balls at the player at high speed.
As great as the game looks, it sounds even better with its fantastic music mixer that blends rocking Metroid music and environmental sounds during the action.
Most importantly, Samus works far better in the role as a pinball than Mario ever could because she already spends half her existence in sphere form. And because she's a lady that's known for kicking a whole lot of ass, it just makes far more sense to send her careening violently into space pirates and planetary bugs.
It's a really fun and addictive handheld pinball game, but it has a few shortcomings that prevent it from getting into the "stunningly awesome" area. More is always better when it comes to pinball, and though the game has enough table designs for a pinball collection it feels like a few more could have been inserted somewhere.
The adventure mode is over surprisingly quick and doesn't have quite the meatiness that Pokemon Pinball experienced with its Pokedex collection, but at least this multi-table challenge is extended with a "hard mode" as well as the standard high score table.
But points to the development team for creating a separate pinball table for multiplayer mode. Metroid Prime Pinball supports single cartridge download play where as many as eight players compete on their own table for the high score. Though you never see the other player's ball it's as if you've got your own machine , it's still a maniacal challenge because you never know what score the other person has until someone reaches the goal score.
Verdict Metroid Prime Pinball may not hold players over waiting for a true Metroid DS adventure like, for example, the delayed-until-next-year Metroid Prime Hunters , but even without the traditional Metroid design Fuse Games has proven that the theme works pretty darn well for pinball. Fuse Games' design looks, sounds, and plays great, and encompasses that pick-up-and-play element that works great in the handheld environment.
